If you’ve recently been bit by a tick and don’t know where to start, here’s some interesting facts you should know.
- Lyme Disease is the #1 tick borne infection in the US
- Lyme Disease is caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi
- The acute “viral like” illness includes symptoms of fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, arthralgias – these symptoms usually develop within 5-14 days of the bite, but some reports show a range of between 3-30 days
- The hallmark finding is a rash: Erythema migrans (EM) rash presents in 70% of infected people but can look atypical (like herpes, a sunburn or even cellulitis) and can be in body areas that are not common. This also means that approximately 30% of people do NOT get the EM rash, so you can have Lyme disease without the typical rash – WARNING!
- With or without the rash, these symptoms can last 1-3 weeks, even with antibiotic treatment
Please contact your doctor for a minimum 6 week dose of antibiotics immediately.
